Redbridge People’s Plaque Scheme
The Redbridge People’s Plaque Scheme celebrates people, buildings, structures, open spaces, parks or events that have shaped the borough’s rich history and vibrant communities.
To mark the 80th anniversary of victory in Europe Day, the first plaque was unveiled at Fairlop Waters, honouring the area’s contribution as an airfield during both World Wars.
Who can you nominate

Submit a nomination
You can make a nomination at any time.
You’ll need:
- name of individual or group
- name and location of building, structure, park, open space or event
- any dates if relevant. For example, when someone lived or worked in the borough
- historical or cultural significance to Redbridge
You’ll need to make sure your nomination is in line with our Equity and Inclusion Strategy. We’ll discount your nomination if it’s not or it does not uphold the values of Redbridge.
What happens next
Your nomination will be reviewed by a Redbridge People’s Plaque Panel. They will meet two to three times a year to judge the nominations and decide a winner.
The panel will be chaired by one of our councillors and will include stakeholder and representatives from community and youth groups.
If there are multiple nominations or multiple people making a nomination, these will all be reviewed by the panel. They will judge the nominations on merit rather than the number of nominations received.
Information about the nominations and winner(s) will be available on this page.
