One of the easiest ways we can all play our part to help tackle climate change is to reduce our household waste and recycle as much as we can of whatever waste is left.

In Redbridge around a third of household waste is food waste, but there are really simple ways to reduce the amount of food getting binned in the borough and Redbridge Council's Neighbourhood Team is on hand to show you how.

For Zero Waste Week, taking place 4 – 8 September, the team are hosting a FREE ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ live cookery event aimed at supporting local people with reducing food waste.

As part of the live cookery event with a professional chef, event attendees will get to cook delicious food, which can be eaten during the session or taken home, boost their culinary skills and learn how to cut down on food waste and save pounds in the process.

Places are limited so be quick to sign-up to secure your free spot. The event takes place on Wednesday 6 September, 12pm-2pm, Cranbrook Children’s Centre, The Drive, Ilford, IG1 3PS.

All recipes cooked will be vegetarian, with vegan options available and the two-hour workshop will include:

  • Top tips to help you make the most of your food and save up to £70 a month
  • Live cooking demonstrations from a professional chef
  • The opportunity to get involved and cook your own low cost, low waste meal to enjoy
