Discover the benefits of greener living with the School of Simple Swaps
Published: 08 September 2023
A local environmental campaigner has teamed up with Redbridge Council to offer FREE workshops on eco-friendly living through the School of Simple Swaps.
The Council funded initiative, organised and led by local mum and campaigner Lydia Fraser-Ward, is part of efforts to tackle the climate crisis by encouraging greener living in the borough.
The workshops are part of a course branded the School of Simple Swaps, and follows a successful pilot initiated by Lydia last year.
Run by local people, for local people, the workshops take place over three consecutive Saturdays in September and demonstrate how to make easy changes to our daily lives for more eco-friendly living.
Perfect for children, parents and grandparents to learn together, the practical workshops will take place both indoors and outside and are completely free - and lots of fun!
The workshops cover an extensive range of topics from reducing waste, and sustainable travel to making alternative environmentally friendly choices as part of everyday life.
Lydia from Woodford Green said: “Sometimes the climate crisis can feel overwhelming, and we don’t think there’s anything we can do to make a difference; but that’s not true. As individuals we can all play an important role in changing our behaviour to ensure we live greener lives that minimise our negative impact on the environment.
“Every change is important, no matter how small, and the School of Simple Swaps has been designed to be a fun, and interactive eco-course to give residents tips and advice to get started. There will be a range of practical activities as well as lots of useful information about how you can make a difference and help look after our environment.
“Thanks to funding from Redbridge Council, participation in the course is completely free, so if you’ve been thinking about making some changes, but aren’t sure where to start, this is the course for you.”
The School of Simple Swaps takes place at Ray Park Café, Snakes Lane East, IG8 7JF on:
- Saturday 16th September (11am-1pm)
- Saturday 23rd September (11am-1pm)
- Saturday 30th September (11am-1pm)
All three sessions must be attended to complete the programme.
