Finding out if an application is going to Planning Committee
Once the case officer is sure the application is being taken to Planning Committee, they will write to people who made representations to let them know the date of the meeting and provide further information.
Applications that go to Planning Committee
Some applications can be decided by “delegated procedure” where the planning department can make decisions. Others are decided by “committee procedure” and are looked at by elected members of the Committee.
The Committee looks at applications that can be large, complex or controversial. Any Ward Councillor can request an application goes to Committee (“called-in”) within the 21 day consultation period, provided it is for reasons based on planning rationale. The final decision to take an application to the Planning Committee is made by the Chair of Planning Committee.
