Become a school governor
We offer a support service for governors that brings together professionals from schools, the local authority, and independent providers to fully support all schools' needs.
We run a training programme for governors and clerks. This provides the chance to stay updated on school governance while connecting with others to share ideas and best practices.
What do we provide
Our main goal is to support governing boards in doing their job to the highest standard. We focus on helping with:
- setting a clear vision, values, and long-term direction for the school
- making sure school leaders are held accountable for how well pupils and staff perform
- overseeing the school’s finances to ensure money is used wisely
- carrying out all legal duties, especially around safeguarding and pupil welfare
- providing a full clerking service
What do school governors do
Our main school governing boards work together as a team to lead and guide the school’s long-term direction.
They have three main responsibilities:
- setting the school’s vision and goals
- making sure the school performs well and pupils are safe
- overseeing the budget to ensure money is used properly
The term of office for governors can vary. Governors usually serve for four years, but they can resign at any time during that period.
