Behaviour and Inclusion

We provide support for pupils who are permanently excluded. This is when a pupil is no longer allowed to attend a school because of serious or repeated behavioral issues.

If a pupil who lives in Redbridge is permanently excluded from a school in Redbridge or another area, we’ll arrange suitable alternative education from the 6th school day after their exclusion. This is known as Education Other Than At School (EOTAS).

We:

  • help schools and families understand the legal process around permanent exclusions, including how appeals work
  • support headteachers, parents, and other professionals when a pupil is at risk of permanent exclusion, offer advice on suspensions and best practices to avoid exclusion
  • administrate the Redbridge Inclusion Panel, which monitors all pupils entering and leaving EOTAS have the right placement, are making progress, and can return to mainstream school when ready

See GOV.UK for guidance on the suspension and permanent exclusion of pupils from local-authority-maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units

See GOV.UK for help with ensuring a good education for children who cannot attend school because of health needs
