School places for children with special needs (SEND)

What are special schools?

Special schools teach children and young people who have severe learning difficulties and special educational needs. Their needs are considered too complex to be met in a mainstream school.

These are called SEN schools (special educational needs schools). Children go to special schools when parents and professionals agree it's the best option.

All children in special schools have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Special schools in Redbridge

We have five schools specifically for children with special needs:

We have mainstream schools who have the specific resources to support children with special needs. These schools are known as schools with Additional Resource Provisions (ARP).
